I draw my inspiration from sources like various weather/natural phenomena to ancient Irish Mythology and Astrology to modern Astronomy. I have a deep and abiding interest in depths of human creativity spanning back as far as our known history as a species.

Bealach na Bó Finne

The title of the work “Bealach na Bó Finne” translates from Irish to “The Way of the White Cow,” which is the Irish name for the Milky Way. So named because ancient Irish folklore envisioned the night sky’s band of stars as a trail left by a mythical, sacred white cow with an endless supply of milk. The path is also viewed as heavenly reflection of the River Boyne (Abhainn Bó Finne) in County Meath. These both tying back to the ancient water goddess Bóinn.

This piece is entitled (in Irish) “An Camchéachta,” which translates to “The (bent) Plough.” This is the Irish name for the constellation called the “Big Dipper” (Ursa Major). The work is essentially a musical portrait of the constellation but also takes into account the Irish and Welsh mythology around the first person to yoke an oxen. The political significance of the plough symbol is also taken up.
